After years of construction, Brian and Lea’s first community was nearly complete. The infrastructure was built: major roads, buildings, electrical and sewer systems. They sold over one thousand residential properties and several commercial properties. The basic community was in full operation. Vacant land was being developed for the last phase of construction.

Brian Storm drove his car down a road lined with palm trees. He approached a fountain in the middle of the road, circled around it, and turned into a side parking lot. He got out of the car and walked into the new building. The contrast between the desert heat and the air-conditioned building was stark. He felt extremely relieved upon entering the building. Brian rode the elevator to the third floor and entered his office. He sat in his chair and peered out the window that overlooked the new community.

"Beautiful!" he exclaimed.

No one was in the room to hear Brian, but the beauty of this new community overwhelmed him. Everything was in place very much according to plan: the new buildings, roads, landscapes, and fixtures. Even the cars and people seemed new. The sky was blue and the sun beamed down on the community, bathing it with warmth and brilliance.

As Brian viewed the new community from his window, he realized something. The new town was very beautiful. In fact, it was a work of art. That was due to the help of virtuoso architects, landscape architects, civil engineers, planners, building contractors, and other key players. But Brian’s realization went further than the built environment. What struck Brian as beautiful was the fact that his vision—a rational, free, prosperous community—had been manifested. Achieving his magnificent goal, which at one time was an embryonic thought, overwhelmed Brian Storm. The power of actualizing his vision sent feelings of euphoria throughout his body. That he could dream, formulate his dream into a goal, work everyday to achieve that goal, and eventually see the goal transformed into reality was amazing. Feelings of happiness were so intense in Brian that he could not focus on anything else.

When his wife Lea entered the office, Brian did not even notice her. She said something to him, but he did not move.

"Brian, dear, I want you to review these documents." Lea said.

Brian did not move; he sat quietly staring out the window. Lea knew her husband well. She figured he was either thinking or introspecting. She took a piece of paper from his desk and wrote a message on it. Then Lea set the papers on Brian’s desk and walked over to him. She approached Brian from behind his chair and put her arms around him. Both Lea and Brian stared out the window for a few minutes without saying a word.

"Of all the places in the world I’ve lived, I like this place the best." Lea said.

"You do? Why?" asked Brian.

"It’s got everything and it’s so beautiful." Lea replied.

"I agree with you. The design of this community works perfectly in the desert environment. But I was wondering how it would work in a much colder climate, say in Canada." Brian said.

"You’ll have to alter the design to fit the environment." Lea replied.

"Well, I want to keep the same basic theme in all geographic regions where we build. But I agree that we’ll have to make certain modifications to accommodate weather conditions. For example, in cold, wet climates we’ll use skywalks to connect centrally located buildings so pedestrians don’t have to walk outdoors when the weather is bad. We can also introduce an underground navigation system or subway system." Brian said.

"We’ll do whatever is appropriate. Frankly, I can’t wait until we build a community in France." Lea said.

"Why France?" asked Brian.

"Because I want to see the French Riviera." Lea said.

"Okay, we’ll live at the French community while it’s being built. That way you can tour the French Riviera and see Nice, France. I hear it has topless beaches." Brian said.

"Hmm. Are you going to let me go there? Aren’t you afraid of some romantic French man seeing me out there half nude and sweeping me off my feet?" asked Lea.

"Nope." Brian said confidently.

"Well it could happen!" Lea declared.

"Sure it could, but I’m not worried about it." Brian said.

"Oh, you spoiled brat," Lea said as she hopped onto Brian’s lap, "You know I’m in love with you and could never find another man to replace you."

Brian smiled and said, "Hey, what were you talking about when you first walked in? Do you have some papers or something you want me to review?"

"Everything’s on your desk. You can look at it when I leave." Lea said.

Brian reviewed the papers after Lea left. Then he went to work on his computer, reviewing the sales figures for Transchrome. With its growing customer base, Brian realized that more and more people were becoming immortal.

Many of Transchrome’s customers were invited to visit and live in the new community. Customers who did not move to the new community still enjoyed increasing freedom and prosperity as society was gradually shifting to a totally free, capitalistic world.
