While politician Ben Warren and theologian Bob Graham worked together to hold a religious revival assembly, Brian Storm was working day and night to unleash the immortality pill to the world.
Brian Storm and Dr. Richard Masters shifted their focus from research and development to production and marketing. They quietly began selling the immortality pill to drug companies. Also, they marketed the pill directly to wealthy people. They did not get approval from anyone or any governmental agency. Instead, their only guidance was reason, honesty, and free-market dynamics. They could not afford to sell hazardous or inferior products. If they did, people would look to the competition for youth-rejuvenating products.
After a couple of years testing the market, people began to have dramatic results. The immortality pill was reversing the negative effects of aging. Some customers were so thrilled that they told everybody about their new youthful vitality and appearance. A few customers were so happy and grateful for the immortality pill that they offered their entire net worth to Brian Storm to expand distribution of this miracle pill. Brian Storm acknowledged customers’ gratitude but refused all donations. He knew that donated assets would be a liability in his strategic plan to transform the world from a mortality paradigm to an immortality paradigm.
Nevertheless, word began to spread around the world about the immortality pill and its miraculous results. One lady was so overwhelmed with the positive results she experienced that she went on national television. This particular customer had taken the immortality pill and within one year began reverting to her youthful condition. Every day she felt better, younger, stronger, and happier. She went on a popular talk show to tell people about her experience with the immortality pill. She showed the audience pictures of herself before taking the pill and brought some people to testify about her transformation. The before-and-after comparison stunned viewers. That particular show became the talk show’s most popular episode. It was played over and over on different channels at different times. News stations picked up the story and began airing segments on their 24-hour news channels. People started to notice the immortality pill and its results. One person who noticed was Margaret Wilson.
Margaret Wilson has an interesting background. She used to market various products to the public through the popular media. She is very knowledgeable about television and radio advertising, having spent many years selling items through those mediums. She used to work hard as a marketer and advertiser. But one day she really began to think about life. Margaret realized that she worked hard for her money, yet she always had to give some of it away. She figured that those people to whom she gave it—the taxman, bureaucrats, politicians, and theologians—had an easy life compared to her.
Since she had to work hard every day yet give a portion of her income to others, she felt she could not continue living that way. She looked into the lives of those above her to whom she gave her income. When she saw how easy their life was, she decided to change her life. Margaret could no longer justify working hard only to give up a portion of her income. She decided to take advantage of the system; she chose to profit from politics. Margaret Wilson had shifted from a free-market entrepreneur to a political entrepreneur.
Her life changed when she decided to profit from politics. Suddenly, her life was much easier. She worked just a few hours a day yet generated more income than ever—because she had government protection from competitors. Basically, Margaret would meet with societal leaders to learn about new political trends and legal issues. When she discovered an area that politicians were going to regulate, she would ask for exclusive rights to that business area. In turn, she would let the government regulate her business. She did not mind since she now had a guaranteed, easy income: she only worked a few hours each week and had no competitors. An outside observer might think Margaret had a perfect life. But there was a hidden problem.
On most workdays, Margaret left at noon to eat lunch. Afterward, she usually went shopping. Rarely did she make it back to her office unless she was meeting a political figure to discuss new deals. After her shopping episodes, she would go home and lounge on the couch, watching television or gossiping on the telephone. Her life was easy. However, her productivity dropped below the level needed to produce competitive values. She was prospering due to government force that prevented more-competitive individuals from entering her markets.
She exerted very little productive effort each day. As a result, her self-esteem sagged to an all-time low. She subconsciously hated herself and most other people; she even hated life itself. By the time Margaret Wilson reached her forties, she no longer wanted to live.
One afternoon while sitting on the couch watching television, Margaret Wilson saw a rerun of a talk show episode where a lady had reversed the effects of aging. At first, Margaret laughed; she thought that was impossible. She figured the show was a sham or joke, perhaps like a psychic show. But the more she watched, the more she realized it was real. She could hardly believe her eyes: a lady had allegedly become immortal and turned back the ravages of time by taking a tiny pill. Margaret felt compelled to know more.
She contacted the talk show to get the immortal lady’s phone number. Margaret called the lady and asked her about the tiny pill. The lady was so excited about her newfound youth that she told Margaret everything—including information about Brian Storm. Margaret carefully took notes, feeling that she was on to something very big. At the end of the phone call, Margaret politely said thank you and hung up. The thought that repeatedly went through her head was "I’ve got to know more about Brian Storm."
Margaret effectively dropped all her business concerns and sought out Brian Storm, finding as much information about him as she could. She worked with a private investigator, reporters, and the government to learn everything she could about Brian Storm. She became obsessed with him.
After a month of investigating, she sat down at her desk to review everything she found out about Brian Storm. Sitting in front of a stack of papers, she felt an overwhelming urge to ruin this man. Her self-esteem had dropped to such a low point that she wished she was dead…and she wanted to take everyone down with her. Upon learning about Brian’s breakthrough success, she made it her life mission to destroy Brian Storm. Margaret wanted to destroy Brian because he dared to be a great success; if left alone, he would be a tremendous success. But this contradicted Margaret’s worldview. She could not tolerate the thought of someone reaching a level of success that Brian was approaching. Margaret was determined to foil Brian Storm.
While investigating Brian, she learned about other people who were having dramatic results from the immortality pill. This infuriated her even more. At this point, she conjured up a two-part plan: first, she would inform the political community about what Brian was attempting to do. Second, she would use her knowledge of the mass media to stop Brian and his work. Margaret Wilson surely did not want to live forever, nor did she want anyone else to live forever. She saw herself as the spoiler of Brian Storm’s dream. This image gave her temporary feelings of power she needed for psychological survival, bolstering her pseudo self-esteem.
Margaret Wilson called city officials in Chicago to complain about the ‘fraudulent business’ of immortality. City officials told Margaret to contact her state representative: Ben Warren. She did, and Ben arranged to meet with her in downtown Chicago.
At the meeting, Margaret sat in a comfortable chair in Ben Warren’s office. She was wearing a black dress down to her knees and black shoes. Margaret had small black eyes and medium-length black hair. She was moderately pretty, and Ben Warren immediately became interested in her. He told her to relax. She did, and then told Ben everything.
"So you see, Ben, I just know this immortality pill is a fraud and I want it stopped." Margaret said.
"I certainly understand how you feel about this issue." Ben said.
"I was hoping so. Can you put an end to it…uh…for the sake of society? I mean…to preserve the integrity of our community, we must…" Margaret mumbled.
"I think I understand," said Ben Warren, "Please, close the door."
Margaret briefly stared at Ben. Then she got up slowly, turned around, and casually walked to the door. Ben Warren checked out her body as she strutted to the doorway. She closed the door, turned around, and looked at Ben who was sitting in his chair. Ben thought, "She’ll do."
Margaret walked back to her chair in a seductive manner, hoping to win Ben’s affection. Ben was hooked. After Margaret sat down, Ben stood up and spoke.
"See these diplomas on the wall?" Ben said as he pointed to deteriorating paper hanging on the wall, "They represent my power and authority. I got these advanced degrees for one purpose: to serve society! If you’ve got a problem, well…you’ve come to the right person."
Margaret Wilson smiled, knowing she had won Ben to her cause. Ben walked around his desk and moved closer to Margaret. He said, "Now I’m sure that a nice lady like you has only good intentions. So please, be more specific and tell me how I can help you."
As Margaret began to speak, Ben put his face directly in front of hers. She looked a bit confused. Within seconds, Ben grabbed her face and started kissing it. Then he kissed her on the lips. Margaret tried to resist, but thought if she rejected the politician, he would not help her.
Noticing that she did not resist his sexual advance, Ben reached for his pants and began unbuttoning them. Margaret was shocked. She stared at this wanton politician who struggled to remove his pants. Suddenly the phone rang. Ben looked at the phone but did not move. Margaret told him to answer it. He did, and it was his wife. He quickly buttoned his pants and told his wife that he had an unplanned meeting to attend, so he would be home later than expected. Ben’s wife understood and they hung up the phone. Ben felt relieved that his evening was now free.
He turned around to look at Margaret, but her chair was empty. He looked around his office and saw her standing by the door, prepared to leave. She said, "I think I should be going now. It seems like the timing is not right for this. You can call me at home; I left my card on your desk. Bye." Margaret Wilson walked out the door and left the government building.
"Damn!" cried out Ben Warren, "My wife gets in the way of everything! I wish I could get rid of her." He sank into his chair in a fit of despair. While mulling over his personal problems, he recalled what Margaret had told him. He thought more about the issue and wondered if this could be his big chance. Ben thought that if he smashed this immortality business, he might get the recognition he needed to be elected President of the United States. His sour face transmogrified into a contemptuous smile.
Ben made a few phone calls to find out more about the immortality pill. Afterward, he called Margaret Wilson and said her request was a top priority. She was thrilled. The two planned to meet for dinner at the most famous restaurant in Chicago.
At dinner, Ben and Margaret discussed the issue in more detail. Margaret told Ben the reasons she believed the immortality pill was dangerous and why it should be banned. Ben completely agreed. He said, "Yes, this whole immortality issue is fraught with problems. In my opinion, it’s a reckless, morally offensive undertaking. I will see to it that this activity is stopped."
"Will you really do that for me?" asked Margaret, flattered that the politician was committed to fulfilling her request.
"Publicly, I’m doing it for the good of society. But just between the two of us, I’m doing it for you," said the politician as he winked at Margaret.
"Oh, how can I ever thank you?" said the flattered women.
"We’ll figure out something," said the politician who now had control over the woman sitting across from him.
The two finished dinner and left the restaurant. While driving to see a show, Ben turned his car into a parking garage in downtown Chicago.
"Where are we going? I thought we were going to see a show?" asked Margaret Wilson.
"Don’t worry; I’ve just got to take care of some important business here. It will not take long." Ben said in a reassuring manner.
The two got out of the car and walked into a tall building. They went to the front desk and Ben got keys to a room. Both rode up the elevator and entered a room. Ben Warren turned on his laptop computer and began typing while Margaret sat on the bed next to him. He assured her that he would be done in a few minutes. Margaret lay down on the bed. She felt exhilarated knowing she was going to crush Brian Storm.
When Ben finished working on his laptop computer, he pushed it aside and jumped on Margaret. The two engaged in sex all night; they never made it to the show.
