The next day the three of them had lunch together in New York City. They sat in a street café eating sandwiches and drinking tea. After talking about the art show, Brian brought up their new project.
"The first people we’ll recruit to work with us are land developer John Gardner, model Tamara Fox, Professor Kimberly Young, authors Bill Warner and Christie Bridges. Can either of you think of anyone else to recruit?" asked Brian.
"I think you’ve covered the bases. That’s a good starting point." Alex replied.
"Yeah, let’s not overdo it," added Adrienne.
"Okay. I’ll call Kimberly Young and Christie Bridges. Alex, will you contact Bill Warner and John Gardner? And Adrienne, will you contact Tamara Fox?" Brian asked.
"Sure," they both said.
"Now, I’ve done some preliminary estimates and realize that we’ll need five billion dollars for our project. That’ll cover the cost of purchasing an island, developing it with an airport, hotel, shopping center, residential district, school & university, hospital, government building, and business district. What do you think; is that pocket change?" Brian said laughing.
The young couple remained silent.
"Well, do either of you have some money to put toward this goal?" Brian asked.
"Yeah, a few thousand dollars." Alex said.
"I’ll be lucky if I can come up with even that much," added Adrienne.
"Oh don’t worry about it. I don’t expect us to get that kind of money from our personal bank accounts." Brian said.
"Then where do you expect to get that much money?" Adrienne asked.
"Investors, venture capitalists, wealthy individuals, corporations, and philanthropic foundations that invest in pro-freedom ventures. There are plenty around. We only have to persuade them to lend us the money we need." Brian replied.
"I know John Gardner will be interested in what we’re doing. And I have some very wealthy clients whose portfolios and philanthropic activities I manage. I’ll fill them in on what we’re doing and see if they’re interested." Alex added.
"Beautiful. But don’t do anything until I create a package that you can distribute to people. I’ll make the package when I go back to Washington DC and have it ready by the end of next week. Can you two move to Washington with me for awhile?" asked Brian.
"Only if you promise to buy us prime rib dinner." Alex said jokingly.
"Prime rib it is. I’ll even through in champagne." Brian replied.
"Sounds good to me." Adrienne said.
"We’ll go to Washington on Thursday and find living quarters for you two." Brian said.
The three of them finished their lunch and left the café. Later, they arranged their trip to Washington and then flew there Thursday morning.
Once there, the three found an apartment for rent near Brian’s hotel room. Alex and Adrienne moved in that weekend and began making it their temporary home. Meanwhile, Brian was busy creating the promotional brochures for their new project.
Brian spent his mornings in the Library of Congress doing research work and spent the afternoons in a local copy shop creating pages for the brochures. In the evening, he met with Alex and Adrienne so they could review his progress.
By the end of the week, Brian had finished the brochures and brought them to Alex and Adrienne’s apartment.
"Here they are." Brian said as he set a box on the table.
"Let’s see what you’ve got," said Adrienne.
"Look," Brian said as he opened the box and pulled out a brochure. He handed one to each of them.
Upon receiving a copy, Alex reviewed the front and back, and then flipped through the pages. "Awesome! This looks like a high-quality book." Alex said.
"What do you think, Adrienne?" asked Brian.
"Very nice. I think it’ll sell our project nicely." Adrienne said.
"Good. You can give some of these copies to relevant people. If you need more, just ask. Now we can contact the people on our list. Alex, you can tell your clients about what we’re doing and back it up with this informative brochure." Brian said.
"I’ll do that starting Monday. Hey Brian, what’s this web site address listed on the cover?" Alex asked.
"Ah ha! I knew you wouldn’t miss that. It’s the official web site for our project. If you go to www.freecountry.com you’ll see this brochure online, along with news updates and other relevant items. That web site gives us the interactivity and wider dimension we need to attract resources and bring people into our new country." Brian replied.
While the two men were talking, Adrienne turned on her laptop computer and typed in www.freecountry.com to see what was there.
"Wow!" Adrienne exclaimed.
"What is it?" asked Alex.
"Come here and check out our official web site. It’s way cool. Brian, how did you do this in such a short period of time?" Adrienne asked.
Both men walked over to Adrienne, who was staring into a computer screen.
"Cool. I like the way the words dance across the screen. That’s a neat effect to get people’s attention." Alex said.
"I’ve been looking at web site presentations for awhile. I just uploaded this brochure and used a pre-made presentation on our web site. The two go together perfectly. That’s all there is to it." Brian replied.
"Well I like it. Let’s hope it helps." Adrienne said.
The three of them reviewed their web site and brochures. They talked about the project for awhile longer and then Brian left.
